Proper preparation for certain tests is essential for accurate results. Follow the instructions below by test type.

Fasting Tests

  • Fasting Blood Sugar — 8-hour fast required
  • Lipid Panel (Cholesterol) — 12-hour fast required
  • Insulin — 8-hour fast required
  • Some liver function tests — 8-hour fast

Urine Tests

  • Collect the first morning urine sample
  • Clean the area thoroughly before collection
  • Use only the sterile containers provided by the lab
  • Deliver sample to the lab within 1 hour

Hormones & Thyroid

  • Draw blood early in the morning (7–9 AM)
  • Fasting not required for standard TSH
  • Inform the technician of any medications
  • Avoid strenuous exercise 24 hours prior

Cardiac Tests

  • 4–6 hour fast before blood draw
  • Avoid intense exercise 24 hours before
  • Inform the technician of any cardiac medications
  • Rest completely for 15 minutes before ECG

Pregnant Women & Children

  • Drinking water is allowed before testing
  • Inform the technician of pregnancy week
  • Children: 4-hour fast is sufficient
  • For infants: bring a sample of formula milk

  • Collect sample before starting antibiotics
  • Use the designated sterile containers only
  • Deliver to lab immediately after collection
  • Inform technician of symptoms and duration
